  1. Kakapo Who? What? When? Why?

  2. Who is helping the Kakapo? DOC the Department of Conversation is helping the Kakapo because in 2009 it was a major breeding season and it was the most successful breeding year since the start of the Kakapo Recovery Programme one 36 chicks hatched and 33 survived to fledging and 2011was another bumper season with 11 new chicks being added to the kakapo population.

  3. What they’re doing to help? DOC the Department of Conservation boosts the Natural diet of the remaining Kakapo with a special pellet to keep them healthy and to make them produce more eggs in their breeding season. During breeding season the pellets also help mother birds raise their chicks if Rimu fruit and berries are in short supply.

  4. When did they start helping? The Kakapo started getting help in 1970 June 2nd because that’s when it became on the endangered list and then that’s when DOC the Department of Conversation had kicked in and made a Kakapo Recovery Programme.

  5. Why are they helping Kakapo? People, DOC the Department of Conversation and the Kakapo Recovery Programme are helping the Kakapo because there are approximately only 126 to 150 Kakapo left and this bird became endangered all the way back in 1970 June 2nd.
