Pelvis and hip Pain Pelvic Girdle The pelvis is formed by two symmetrical bones known as the innominate bones or pelvic bones/ hip bone. The innominate bones of both sides articulate anteriorly at the pubic symphysis and posteriorly with the sacrum at sacroiliac joints on either sides. This together as a unit is known as pelvic girdle. Hip Joint The hip joint is a ball and socket synovial joint formed by an articulation between the pelvic acetabulum and the head of the femur. It connects the lower limb to the pelvic girdle, and thus is designed for more stability and weight-bearing than movement.
