  4. What’s Popular in the Library? “If you find a rock” by Peggy Christian This book can be used as an introduction to a geology unit with grades 3 and up. This book has great color schemes and it is about something that all kids love to collect: rocks!!! I think that this book can be used to help students know the origins and purposes of certain rocks in our own backyards, and in our area of the country!

  6. When Do We Study Science? Only 45 Minutesa day in this 4th Grade class…

  7. What Do I Plan To Incorporate? I plan to incorporate reading and mathematics with science, giving the same amount of time for the other subjects, but fitting in some time for science throughout the day! 5-E Model of InstructionEngage-Capture students with their curiosity,Explore-What should we do to figure out these answers? Explain-Use the information we learned to come up with a possible reason why, Elaborate-How else can we use this information? Make further connections, Evaluate-Assess the students learning through formal and informal routes. I plan to make the science lessons a rewarding experience for both my students and myself. Plus MUCH more! I have so many fun ideas, and I cannot wait to put them into reality!

  8. What Have I Learned? • Science is typically not at the ‘top’ of the list of things to learn while in school. • The schools that I have visited in our area (that I have visited during science time) tend to stick to a given format of whatthey teach. They do have the option to go above and beyond this format, but many do not. • Science is FUN! It is not all just documentation, it is taking yourideas and questions, and working to develop an answer! • Students learn best when they get to design what they want to learn about the subject; letting them inquire gives them ownership over the lesson, and thus they want their questionsto be answered! • 5-E method of instruction is a great way to get students and instructors fully involved in the material!
