  2. Console-(ch 3) – to give comfort and try to lessen someone’s sadness • Black Market-(ch 4) – buying something illegally, not regulated by the government • Deported-(ch 4) – sent away, transported

  3. Literary Devices in Daniel’s Story • Flashback: the character thinks about events that have happened in the past Where is Daniel when his flashbacks happen?

  4. Literary Devices: Flashback Daniel is on the train looking at pictures and remembering events in his life that happened in the past. The book tells the stories of those past events. Throughout the book

  5. Daniel’s Story—Chapters 3 & 4 • Read along in your book as I read aloud. • Jot down any ?s you have as we go along to discuss later.

  6. Partner Practice • Work with your reading partner to identify the major events in this chapter. • Write the events in the “Chapter 3 & 4” section of the packet. • Update the family tree with any character who have been added or taken away.
