AADSAS A service of the American Dental Education Association www.adea.org/aadsas 54 of the 58 U.S. Dental Schools participate in AADSAS ( 4 schools in GA, LA, MS and TN do not participate) 2010 cycle opens June 1, 2009 Centralized application service Collects applicant information Collects transcripts and letters of recommendation Verifies academic records Processing takes 4-8 weeks after your application, transcripts and payment is received Students should monitor their application (status option on AADSAS)
Admission Application Timeline(AADSAS opens June 1) Take DAT Junior Year, Spring Offers Made Dec 1, Jan 15, Feb 15 Committee work/ Interviewing School Begins Apply June July Aug Sept Oct Nov Dec Jan Feb Aug Senior Year
Applicant Responsibilities Complete your AADSAS application no later than June, even if you don’t have your DAT scores or letters of recommendation yet Print and keep a copy of your AADSAS application Go to the AADSAS FAQ section before you log in to check each school’s requirements Continue to monitor the status of your application by logging onto your AADSAS application and checking personal email messages from AADSAS
Letters of Recommendation Should go through the Office of Pre-Professional Studies (OPPS), Sensenbrenner Hall, 005 Peggy Jones, Monday-Friday 8 AM-4:30 PM Print out a Letter of Evaluation matching form for each letter and bring to OPPS Committee letter Send directly to AADSAS, and can send to MU Dental directly
More Application Tips… Print out a transcript request form for each undergraduate institution you have attended and bring to the Office of the Registrar in Zilber Hall – ask that they attach the request form to your transcript Send DAT scores directly to each dental school Visit the Writing Center in Raynor Library, 207 before May 15 to review your personal statement Record all science courses – e.g. BISC 113 or 115 are considered science courses, HEAL courses are “other science” Be sure to record all dental/clinical experiences – make a list of all activities before you apply
Common Pitfalls Late applications – timing is critical! Delaying application because your DAT scores or letters of recommendation are not ready Incomplete transcripts – send one for every school you have attended Typos or other errors on the application Not researching schools you are applying to Supplemental applications Applying “smart” (in-state vs. out-of-state)
