  1. Facelifts vs. Botox: Getting the Results You Want These days, when it comes to creating a more youthful appearance, there are non-invasive, minimally-invasive, and surgical options available to you. Two of the most popular methods for creating a younger-looking face are Botox injections and facelifts. While both of these options can provide dramatic results, there are some significant differences that may influence your decision. Understanding the Facelift Facelifts are surgical procedures, but there are some minimally-invasive endoscopic options available. Patients who want dramatic changes and long-lasting results often opt for facelift procedures because they can last for decades and offer far more visible results than other options. However, there are risks, particularly when it comes to anesthesia. Recovery times vary from patient-to-patient, and many are off work for two weeks or more. Finally, facelifts will result in some swelling, bruising, and discomfort, but surgeons do their best to manage this with anti-inflammatories and painkillers. Understanding Botox Botox, on the other hand, is a simple series of injections that target certain areas of the face to reduce the appearance of lines, creases, and wrinkles. It is minimally invasive, takes about 15 minutes, and provides noticeable results the very first day. There is absolutely no recovery time, so patients can resume their normal activities the very same day. Patients who require only a few treatments often find that Botox is quite cost-effective, and the results from a single treatment can last three months or more. Patients should consider that Botox is temporary, and unlike a facelift, it cannot correct sagging skin or other significant signs of aging. When Botox is Right for You If you are concerned about your face and the signs of aging, both Botox and facelifts can be excellent ways to restore your youthfulness. Many patients will opt for Botox injections first just to familiarize themselves with the surgical team and get a “preview” of their results. Some patients never opt for a full facelift and are satisfied with the results Botox alone can provide. Other patients find that Botox cannot correct their perceived flaws, so they may combine these injections with other procedures, such as dermal fillers. This can provide fullness in the cheeks, lips, and other parts of the face without the need to go under the knife. When a Facelift is Right for You Many patients will continue to get Botox treatments for some time before they opt for facelift surgery, and some never get Botox at all. Patients who have more significant signs of aging and who want a more permanent fix may want to consider a facelift procedure instead of Botox. If you understand the risks involved with general anesthesia and are prepared to take a couple of weeks away from work and your usual activities, a facelift may be the better option for you. There is no doubt that patients have access to multiple treatments designed to help them achieve the youthful look they crave. Botox and facelifts are both excellent choices, so it is important to weigh the benefits and drawbacks for yourself before making a decision. You can also schedule a consultation with your surgeon for recommendations.
