  3. General Information • LHS Website: www.lakeshorehigh.stpsb.org • Freshmen Orientation August 1, 2014

  4. Vocabulary • Semester:A division of the academic year. We have 2 semesters in high school. The first, or “A” semester, consists of the 1st and 2nd nine weeks and the second, or “B” semester, consists of the 3rd and 4th nine weeks. • Credit:Successful completion of a course. Students will earn .5 credit per passed course for a total of 3.5 credits per semester or 7 credits for the whole year. • A Course:First semester course • B Course:Second semester course

  5. Course Selection • Please be sure to choose a course for each semester, both “A” and “B.” The schedule card should have 14 selections, 7 for the “A” semester and 7 for the “B” semester. • Example: • X_ENG I A • X_ENG I B • __ENG I A (H) • __ENG I B (H) • __ENG I A (G) • __ENG I B (G)

  6. Typical 9th Grade Schedule • English I • Algebra I • Physical Science • World Geography • P.E. or ROTC • IBCA (Intro. To Business Computer Applications) • Art Elective Choice (Art, FAS, Dance, Chorus, Band, Talented Courses/Screening) • This typical 9th grade schedule is aligned with TOPS and Louisiana Core 4 graduation requirements.

  7. Advanced Level Courses • Students must have a signed Advanced Level (Pink Sheet) to schedule Honors or Gifted classes. • Students enrolled in advanced level courses must remain in the course for the semester. • Please check the class that you would like to take. We will verify this against the list that we receive from your school. If there is a discrepancy, we will contact a parent.
