  2. What are the Flagellum & Cilia ? • They are the locomotive arms of the cell • Uses ATP as an energy source • Moves the cell through the organism

  3. Where are They Found? • In 1676 Anton Van Leeuwenhoek discovered Flagella and Cilia • They are found in animal, plant, and bacteria cells • They are found in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells • They are present in multi cellular and single cellular organisms

  4. Function • The Flagella acts in a whipping fashion to move and move other things • The cilia push the cell through an organism instead of whipping

  5. Plant Cell • They are not in many plants • In the plant cell, the flagella is short and there can be multiple • The cilia are blunt shaped

  6. Bacteria Cell • The flagella and cilia are commonly found in bacteria • The flagella of bacteria is very long and has a tip • The cilia of bacteria are very thin

  7. Animal Cell • The flagella and cilia are found in animal cells • The flagella is very short and blunt • The cilia are very short as well

  8. Importance • The importance of the flagella and cilia are vital to different cells in many ways • They are key to movement in bacteria • They are important to plants like algae because they have to move to water

  9. Importance Continued • The flagella and cilia are important in the animal cell because we have to • Move things in out bodies • And sperm have to get to the egg

  10. How they move • The flagella and cilia are made up of microtubules • Some flagella move in a flailing manner • And others move in a circular manner

  11. What is it made of • The cilia and flagella are made of protein • In eukaryotic cells, the flagella are made of more filaments than in prokaryotic cells
