  1. Orbital Data ExplorerOverview PDS Geosciences March 29th, 2007 Keith Bennett

  2. Orbital Data Explorer (ODE) Purpose: To provide a unified product-level web interface to Mars PDS data with enhanced search and browse capabilities tailored specifically to the MRO mission and data Primary Target Audience: Planetary Scientists Lunar Plans: To expand this capability to the Lunar datasets

  3. ODE and PDS • Specialized PDS Web-based Interface to MRO data • Similar to MER Analysis Notebook

  4. ODE Approach • Load metadata from all PDS products in selected datasets • Mars: CRISM, SHARAD, Gravity HiRISE, CTX, HRSC, OMEGA • Moon: LRO Instruments, International Instruments? • Metadata extracted from individual product labels / product data files • Metadata extraction tailored to specific product types • Selected Product Data • Ex: CRISM Frame Information • Load or create browse versions of all products • Store metadata in a searchable database • Support cross-product relationships • MRO Coordinated Observations and Product Sources

  5. ODE Approach – Web Interface • Dynamic forms-based product query including: • Space and Time • Coordinated Target Observations • Ad-hoc cross-instrument searches • Product-specific attribute searches • Map-based query • Browse versions of all products • Direct access to product-specific web interfaces • Example: HiRISE JPIP Servers • Download selected products in “on-the-fly mini-archives” • Currently available for Geosciences products only

  6. ODE Approach – Map and Data Services • Provide Map Data via WMS/KML to various clients: • WMS/KML Clients • Desktop Clients (ex. ArcGIS) • Google Earth • World Wind • Map Data Provided: • PDS Product Coverage • Browse Image Overlays • Some actual product information (ex. CRISM) • Provide Data via SOA services • Details TBD Example of product coverage data extracted from the ODE database and projected onto Google Earth with Mars elevation data

  7. Status • In development • 1st Release • June, 2007 • Support for: • CRISM, HiRISE, CTX, Gravity, SHARAD • MEX HRSC, OMEGA data will be included on best effort basis • Full Web Interface • Limited WMS Support • 2nd Release • Fall, 2007 • Support for: • Additional TBD Data Sets • Full WMS Support
