  7. IISA Programmes in InsuranceCurriculum for 2007 • 1 Compulsory Subject • Legal Framework of • Short-Term Insurance, or • Life Insurance, or • Retirement Fund Management • 4 Elective Subjects • From limited range per discipline • 120 SAQA Credits at NQF 5

  8. UNISA 2007Admission Requirements • NQF Level 5 Programme • Matric, or • Equivalent SAQA registered/certified NQF 4 Qual. (Senior Certificate) AND • 24 insurance credits at NQF 4, OR • IISA’s ICiBS

  9. 2007 UNISA Programmes Special Interim Arrangements: • Admission Exam for admission to the Level 5 Programmes ‘Introduction to - Short-Term/Long Term Insurance/ Retirement Funds’ NB This is a non-credit bearing exam If, • You do not have the 24 NQF 4 insurance credits, or ICiBS • But, you must haveMatric/Senior Certificate • (ie may study at UNISA’s CBM)

  10. 2007 Admission Options New Student now has a choice: • Do CoP and ICiBS, or similar • then come to UNISA • or Sit the Admission Test/Exam • start with UNISA immediately Deciding factor likely to be level of experiential learning (workplace experience) and/or education/maturity.

  14. 2007 Programmes • Assignment 01 remains self-evaluation • Assignment 02 due June/July • Now counts 10% of year mark and to be done under simulated exam conditions • Study Material incorporates traditional Supplement • Tutorial Letter 501 if major changes • Legislation as at end-Sept applies • Learning material by IISA • UNISA branded and per standard UNISA format

  15. 2007 UNISA CBM 2007 ‘Rules’ • Up to three module entries allowed ≥ 4 subjects need approval, and subject to past academic performance portfolio, non full-time employment, etc • Examination sub-minimum required for awarding of supplementary exam • Possibly 30% in 2007 • and 45% in 2008 • Aegrotat and Special Exams application ≤ ten days of exam date

  16. 2007 Programmes General Agreements • 1 for 1 credit for IISA/CoI subjects passed • NQF 5 Programme to be completed before start of NQF6 Programme • (Normally allowed to do first subject in NQF 6 in same exam session as last subject NQF5) • UNISA 2004 SPFA assessment gives admission to NQF5 Programme

  17. 2007 UNISA Programmes General Conditions • Unless MoU in place – formal written application for exemption required • Need to prove at least 80% coverage of syllabus • Withdrawal from Programme % of Fees forfeited • Deferral of subjects to next year allowed • once only - no refund – credit Student Account

UNISA Programmes General • UNISA Programmes FAIS compliance compatible • in terms of latest ‘Fit and Proper’ requirements • Subject lecturers ‘introduced’ and available • Contact possible via telephone or email • UNISA Programme staff available between 08:00 and 13:00 • Personal visits/interviews by appointment • Range of facilities via myUnisa

UNISA Programmes General • Certification at UNISA certificate ceremony – eligible for Licentiate/Associateship • Certification includes IISA credits • if submitted/recorded via Academic Extract • Formal occasion • (black gown, but no paste board, or ribbons) • Performance details to IISA for annual Conference and prizes (if applicable)

Fellowship Programme • Former ADiIM unacceptable to UNISA • Final exams held by Col in September 2006 • Planning Post Grad Dip in Financial Services • Possibly only 2009 or later with IoB Programme • Student can/should consider UNISA’s Advanced Programme in Risk Management • (7158-7) by Prof Gawie du Toit • Two-year programme • Dissertation would still be a requirement

  21. UNISA Method of Instruction Distance Learning • Allows student to pace him/herself • Instruction medium English, but assignments and exams may be answered in Afrikaans • One compulsory assignment for admission to examination • Examination at one of 517 UNISA exam centres worldwide

UNISA Duration of Programme/Module Annual Programme • Allows students to enrol/register annually • 15 November to 28 February • Programme officially starts on 01 March • Examinations annually in October/November • Supplementary examinations in May NB If not completed during the registered year, student must apply for re-registration at full fees and possibly new study material. • Includes non-award of supplementary exam

  25. UNISA Examinations • 3-hour papers • Closed book examinations • At least 30% of paper is made up of elective questions • Prog in Adv Ins Practice elective subjects have compulsory case study of 25% • Structure of paper and ‘rules’ for supplementary in Tutorial Letter 201 (± August)
