  2. OmniSourceDOT Inspections • 81 DOT inspections in 2nd quarter, April - June • 35 inspections resulted in $13,906.08 in overweight fines • 6 inspections resulted in out of service violations • 24 inspections had violations noted but no citation • 16 inspections were no violations discovered

  3. OmniSource Inspections By Root Cause • 31% of inspections occurred • due to driver preventable reasons • 69% due to other reasons

  4. Consequences Of A Failed Inspection • Driver • Lost productivity= lost revenue= lost pay • Monetary fines and/ or suspension • Affects driver CSA scorecard • Company • Raise a red flag for a DOT audit • Out of service fines • Affects carrier CSA scorecard

  6. How to Pass A DOT Inspection • Do a thorough pre trip inspection • What are the 7 steps for pre trip: • Vehicle overview • Engine compartment • Walk around • Inside the cab • Emergency equipment • Lights • Final brake check

How To Pass A DOT Inspection • Proper documents in the permit holder ** • Permit book should only contain: • Current registration • Current DOT inspection • Correct and valid insurance card • Current IFTA card • Other permits as required ** All expired documents shouldbe removed from Permit Book

  8. How To Pass A DOT Inspection • Be prepared by: • Keeping your log book current to last duty status • Maintaining a positive attitude • Driving a clean vehicle • Drive to avoid the avoidable inspection
