What is Pentecost to You? • “All” the believers in one place was 120 • They were told to wait for a gift - they obeyed • “Feast of Weeks”= Day of Pentecost celebrated on fiftieth day after the Festival of Harvest • The feast celebrated renewal of the covenant and the first fruits of harvest! • God promised to be present with His people in the feasts and celebrations!
What is Pentecost to You? • Believers given the Spirit for specific function • Now it was to tell of God “in other languages.” • Travelers amazed to hear message in their own ‘native language.’ • Baseless ridicule was good transition to the truth • Truth as comprehensive/logical as Spirit filled. • Now the only appropriate response to God is to believe in his Son.
What is Pentecost to You? • Notice the first hearers asked what to do about this important message • Answer basically the same today: • Professing faith in Jesus Christ, repentance, and baptism enabled the believer to receive forgiveness and the Holy Spirit • 2500% growth that day isn’t whole story… • Lives changed, fellowship, helping, sharing...
What is Pentecost to You? • Amazing things happen when the Holy Spirit is at work • Forgiveness now found exclusively in Jesus! • The risen Christ was a living reality to them, worth giving their all. • “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” ! • Have you called? Given yourself to Him? Obeyed?
