Our Goals • Help students gain experience in the field of sports medicine • Guest speakers, presentations, shadowing • Help students gain admission to medical school/graduate school • Presentations and meetings devoted to these topics • Answer personal questions regarding applications • Promote health through participation in sports • Sports equipment donations and community events

  3. Members can... • Attend weekly meetings • Guest speakers and discussion topics announced in weekly emails • Attend events • Priority sign ups during meetings, can also reply to our emails to sign up • Attend socials (one or two per quarter) • Announced in emails • Last quarter, we watched the UCLA vs. USC women’s soccer match

  4. No Membership Requirements! • You get what you put in (can do very little or a lot) • Note: Priority sign-ups will be given to more active members Give us your email after meeting if you would like to be placed on our mailing list

  5. What we will do this quarter • Sports Equipment Donations - Potentially in Watts or in Mexico • Looking to create a sports equipment donation drive for UCLA students to make donations • UCLA BrainSPORT • Team Physician Shadowing • Volunteer at the LA Marathon

UCLA BrainSPORT • Concussion: The most common and serious type of traumatic brain injury, often caused by a violent blow to the head • Concussion Baseline Test: A test of reaction time, memory capacity, processing speed, and executive function taken prior to a sport season Pre-season Baseline → Concussion → Repeat test with patient after concussion

  8. UCLA BrainSPORT • Conduct baseline concussion evaluations for spring sports • Local Schools • Program coordinator will be here next week!

  9. Team Physician Shadowing • Cal State LA • More information coming soon about other colleges and dates for these!
