Australian CurriculumENGLISH • In Prep, students will be explicitly taught: • Appropriate speaking and listening skills. • Phonics (knowledge of letters, sounds, blends). • Reading skills, blending, knowledge of tricky words (sight words). • Early reading strategies. • Letter formation and early writing skills e.g. sounding out words and developing sentences.
Australian CurriculumMATHS • Children are immersed in activities that are relevant to the following Math’s strands of Number and Algebra; Measurement and Geometry; Statistics and Probability. • The core content taught in these strands is reinforced through working mathematically and building proficiency through: • Understanding includes connecting names, numerals and quantities. • Fluency includes readily counting numbers in sequences, continuing patterns, and comparing the lengths of objects. • Problem Solving includes using materials to model authentic problems, sorting objects, using familiar counting sequences to solve unfamiliar problems, and discussing the reasonableness of theanswer. • Reasoning includes explaining comparisons of quantities, creating patterns, and explaining processes for indirect comparison of length.
Australian CurriculumSCIENCE, GEOGRAPHY, HISTORY • History/Geography • What is my history and how do I know? In this unit students will explore their personal story, including their family history. They will investigate who the people in their family are and where they were born and raised through an appreciation of family stories. Students will also develop an understanding of how family members are related to each other and will make these connections within their own families. In addition, students will have the opportunity to investigate maps and their features, and a globe as the representation of the world. They will take a journey 'around the world' to explore their family origins and place their photographs and names on a classroom world map. • Science • To be covered in Term 2.

Reporting and Partnerships • We work together to ensure your child is safe, comfortable and happy at Jubilee. • We strive to consistently inform you of your child’s progress in both informal and formal ways. • Formal Reports will go home twice a year: • Term 1: Parent-Teacher Conferences • Term 2 & 4: Formal School Report
Positive Behaviour Practices • At Jubilee we actively encourage to be positive, peaceful people. • PREP classes have a zero tolerance policy for violence. • Each teacher will have their own system to manage in class behaviour.
Delivering / Collecting Children • Morning Drop-off: • 8:00am Staff on duty in Early Years Centre • 8:30am Classrooms open • 8:40am Classes commence • Afternoon Pick-up: • 3:00pm – End of school day. Parents to pick up from classroom or Kiss ‘n’ Go area.

I-Centre / Library • Borrowing weekly – 2 books each with library bag. (Borrowing days can be different so please check with your class teacher). • Fortnightly I.T and Library lessons with Mr Troy Parsons.
Children’s Health • Medication Consent Form • All medication is to go to the office, not to the class teacher. • Children who require inhalers or epipens will keep these in their classroom only after the medication consent form has been lodged. • If your child is sick we will follow school procedure and call you if we feel they need to be taken home. • Some conditions require exclusion periods from school e.g. School sores, chicken pox, head lice. • Jubilee is a sun-safe school….school hats are to be worn every day! During outside play children apply sunscreen supplied by the school.

Parent Help • Each Prep class teacher will let you know suitable times for your class. • All Parent volunteers must attend an induction prior to coming into the classroom.
Food , Birthdays, Tuckshop • We encourage “Nude Food” in school lunchboxes. • Munch ‘n’ Crunch, Morning Tea, Lunch • Allergies – please inform us ASAP. • Birthday ideas – cupcakes, Freddos. • Tuckshop is open every day except Monday. • Order online is best! However, if you don’t have Internet access, send your order and money in a brown paper bag. (I bag for Morning Tea, 1 bag for lunch). Please label name and class on both bags. • Preps do not purchase food over the counter at the tuckshop. No loose money please!
Helpful Hints • No toys at school! • Toilet-trained • Please pack spare underwear in case of toilet accidents. • Practice opening lunch boxes and food. Positive encouragement works a treat! • Self-help skills
