  1. Summary of Session on CDBM joint experiments J DeBoo, C C Petty, D C McDonald, J Snipes, S Kaye, C Giroud, H Weisen, Y Martin Structure of talk: • CDB-2: Confinement scaling in ELMy H-modes – b degradation • CDB-4: Confinement scaling in ELMy H-modes – n* scans at n/nG • CDB-6: Improving condition of global DBs – low A • CDB-8: r* scaling on ITER relevant path at low and high b • CDB-9: Density profiles at low collisionality • CDB-10: Variation of low density PL-H with Bt and Ip Darren McDonald, ITPA meeting, 3rd October 2007

  2. CDB-2: Beta effects • NSTX, DIII-D and JET experiments reviewed in beta session summary • Future experiments in 2008: AUG: bdependence, edge conditions and n* will be attempted. MAST: Experiments planned for 2008, subject to NBI availability. NSTX: Continued studies of effect of shape/ELMs. Li evaporation? JET: will propose studies of the effect of shape in hybrid-like scenarios Darren McDonald, ITPA meeting, 3rd October 2007

  3. CDB-4: nu*/fGW effects • JET 4-point nu* scan shows evidence of knee in transport scaling • Future work in 2008: C-Mod: perform nu* scan in JET-C-Mod match experiment JET: complete analysis of 4 point nu* scan Darren McDonald, ITPA meeting, 3rd October 2007

  4. CDB-6: low R/a studies • MAST • Expanded H-mode operating space to up to 1.2 MA in DND configuration • Powers up to 3.2 MW • Find weaker than linear current dependence, strong toroidal field dependence of total stored energy • TRANSP analysis now being performed to assess thermal confinement dependences • NSTX • Compiled rotation data for observations already in H-mode database • Confinement times not well ordered by either ω(0) or ω(r/a=0.5) • Little to be gained by studying this parameter • Need to assess local ω′ Darren McDonald, ITPA meeting, 3rd October 2007

  5. old ITER CDB-8: rho* scan to ITER • • Aim: perform rho* scan with nu*, beta, q, shape ~ matched to ITER baseline on C-mod/AUG/DIII-D/JET. • Will give a one parameter scaling to ITER of confinement, transport, turbulence, pedestal, ELMs,… • C-Mod waiting until diverted plasmas can match the ITER nu* • JET part has not been scheduled. • Future work in 2008: JET and C-Mod: get experiment scheduled Darren McDonald, ITPA meeting, 3rd October 2007

  6. CDB-9: density peaking • • JET study using LIDAR data finds similar trend with collisionality • at high nu* effect seems saturated • No Ti/Te dependence found. Need more experiments with higher ICRH power to decorrelate these parameters. Darren McDonald, ITPA meeting, 3rd October 2007

  7. CDB-10: L-H ne scaling • See Yves Martin’s summary of the L-H threshold sessions Darren McDonald, ITPA meeting, 3rd October 2007
