  34. COMMANDseries 2012 Features • Data archiving provides a mechanism to maintain your operational database while simultaneously maintaining an archival database. • Archiving is a two-step process • Archive • Purge (remove old/historical data from production database) • Implementing archiving involves the creation of a second database to house the archive. • Read only access to Archive Database COMMANDseries V2 Product Roadmap and Forum

  35. COMMANDseries 2012 Features COMMANDseries V2 Product Roadmap and Forum

  36. COMMANDseries 2012 Features • A second database is used for the archive. • The archive database does not have to be of the same database type as the production database; you can archive from Oracle to SQL Serveror from SQL Server to Oracle. • To create an archive database on the same database engine as your production database, simply create a copy of the production database with a new database name, user name and tablespace name but without any data. COMMANDseries V2 Product Roadmap and Forum

  37. COMMANDseries 2012 Features • Two different cmdseries assignment files are needed. • COMMANDseries Installation Folder • Archive Folder • Clients Folder • In production mode, COMMANDseries will have full access to both the production and archive databases. • This mode will handle standard business activity as well as the process of copying/moving data to the archive database. • The assignment file will need connection information for both databases. COMMANDseries V2 Product Roadmap and Forum

  38. COMMANDseries 2012 Features • The Assignment File Wizard has been updated to generate the correct configuration based on user input. COMMANDseries V2 Product Roadmap and Forum

  39. COMMANDseries 2012 Features • Pressing the Define Archive button will open a new screen in which you can enter the archive database information. COMMANDseries V2 Product Roadmap and Forum

  40. COMMANDseries 2012 Features • Archive mode allows you to access the archive database to review orders, run reports, etc. (Read Only) • Where Production uses the \Clients directory under the CMDseries folder, a new folder, \Archive is required to access the archive data. COMMANDseries V2 Product Roadmap and Forum

  41. COMMANDseries 2012 Features • There are two types of archive routines: Full Archive – archives the entire database Table Archive – archives only selected tables • Most companies will probably archive the entire database. COMMANDseries V2 Product Roadmap and Forum

  42. COMMANDseries 2012 Features • Enter an Archive Date. Transactional data earlier than this date will be archived. This value cannot be more current than the Days to Save Detail field on the Configuration-Distribution tab. • Enter a Commit interval. This value determines how many records will be written to the database in a single transaction. COMMANDseries V2 Product Roadmap and Forum

  43. COMMANDseries 2012 Features • Select the tables to be archived by selecting from the list to the left. You can also select one of four groups in the drop-down selector  All Tables (Required once to allow Archive access)  Audit/Log Tables  Master Tables  Transactional Tables COMMANDseries V2 Product Roadmap and Forum
