  1. ESA Web Mapping ActivitiesCEOS-WGISSESRIN 7-10-May-2002Christophe Caspar – Giuseppe Tandurella

  2. Presentation Plan • Recent development • New available layers • Improved web client • Future activities (short / mid-term) • Distribution of MODIS level 1b using WMS & WCS • NRT distribution of O3, NO2 and cloud data(ERS2/GOME data collaboration with DLR) • Ocean Test Facility • Access to MUIS catalogue via WMS interface

  3. New Layers …

  4. Additionof New Layers • GOFC specific layers DMSP , AVHRR hot spots SAR , LANDSAT Frames • MODIS 5 and 1 KM, DMSP 5KM • BURN Scars Database year 2000 ; ~ 1.5 million points

  5. MODIS 1KM(3 Gbytes)

  6. ASAR AATSR MERIS ENVISAT products Geotiff ENVISAT products Geo-coding engine(in house dev.) Web Map Server

  7. AATSR 1km resolution – 500 km swath width

  8. MERIS300m or 1.2 km – 1120km swath

  9. ASAR 30m/100km swath

  10. Improvement on Web Client

  11. Improvement of Client Application • Improved layer selection (done) • Automatic parsing of capability files • Creation of User Profiles

  12. Short / mid-term plans

  13. Access to MUIS BDS ESA Missions: ERS 1& 2 (SAR Image, wave, microwave sounder, windscaterrometer, ATSR) ENVISAT soon. Third Party Missions: JERS SAR, Landsat TM, Landsat MSS, NOAA AVHRR, Nimbus-7 CZCS, IRS-P3 MOS, SeaStar SeaWiFS, MODIS Number of entries: 7 000 000 Number of browses: 200 000 passes Objective : Develop a WMS interface on top of the browse data server to make all scenes available as GIS layers Problem : Need to deal with satellite data in native projection. Need to re-project on the fly.

  14. Collaboration with DLRAtmospheric products 1/2 • Existing NRT server for : • Ozone • NO2 ( Biomass burning …) • Cloud cover • Global Data Sets

  15. Collaboration with DLRAtmospheric products 2/2

  16. Ocean Testing Facility • International collaboration CEOS + Science Users • Duration : ~ 3 years • Share Oceanographic Data • Use of OpenGIS components • New development required Animation, Processing …

  17. Server A : General GIS data Server B : 5 years Oil Slick Data Server C : Daily SST New Phase 2 Data Servers Processing Servers- , correlation … e.g. difference between two SST layers. The derived data set appear As new layer that can be further combined. Data Repository Dataset discovery Science data Images Capacity for specialized processing at user’s premises downloading raw scientific data Mixed New data representations Static layer Combination Metadata for a particularOil Slick SST time series with additional static GIS layers
