  7. Field of view • it is the diameter of the circle of light that you see when looking into a microscope. • As the power gets greater, the field of view gets smaller.

  8. Micrometer • a unit of length in the metric system • one millionth of a meter • Used to be called the micron. • Symbol = mm

Under low power ~ 4x (actually 10 * 4 = 40X), the entire field of view is about 5mm or 5,000 micrometers across. • If an object takes up the entire field of view, it is • 5mm or 5,000 micrometers across • If an object takes up 1/2 the field of view, it is • 2.5mm or 2,500 micrometers across • If an object takes up 1/4 the field of view, it is • 1.25mm or 1,250 micrometers across
