  2. What is EBP? • Why is it important? • Are any NAMI programs EBPs? • What’s new at NAMI? • Q&A

  3. What is EBP? • Clinical research shows that a treatment produces positive outcomes • The treatment has been shown effective in repeated studies • The studies have been published in peer-reviewed journals

  4. What kind of positive outcomes? • Symptom reduction • Prevention of need for intensive, more restrictive services • Fewer hospital admissions • Less expulsions from school • Better quality of life

  5. Examples of EBP therapies • CBT – Cognitive Behavior Therapy • CET – Cognitive Enhancement Therapy • DBT – Dialectical Behavior Therapy • EMDR – Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing • Multisystemic therapy

  6. We have a right to know - • There is more to psychotherapy than just “talking” • There is more to using medication as a treatment component than just writing a prescription • Not every healthcare professional has expertise in every type of therapy
