  2. What are reflexive verbs? • You have encountered some verbs that end in –se. • These are called reflexive verbs. • Examples: • Despertarse (to wake up) • Acostarse (to go to bed) • Ducharse (to take a shower) • Lavarse (to wash oneself

  3. Why are they called “reflexive”? • Reflexive verbs indicate that the subject is involved in the action. • For example: I take a shower or I shower myself. • I am doing the action to myself.

  4. This term, which sounds more difficult than it really is, simply means that the verb flexes back upon the noun or pronoun that is its subject. In English the reflexive pronoun always has -self on its end, and we do not use the construction very frequently. In other languages, however, reflexive forms may be used more frequently, and in ways that do not seem very logical to an English speaker. Examples of English reflexive sentences: "He washes himself. “ "He seated himself at the table."

  7. The verbs don’t change • The verb is conjugated as it normally would be in the present tense. Just drop the –se and you will be left with the infinitive.

  17. Reflexive verbs are used mainly with verbs that pertain to ones daily routine. Other times they may give the verb a totally different Meaning.
