What is PowerPoint? • PowerPoint is a presentation program you can use to convey all kinds of messages to an audience. • You can use PowerPoint to create slide shows to present ideas to clients, explain a concept or procedure to employees, or teach a class about a new subject. • File extension • .PPT • .PPTX • *Note that PowerPoint has two capital P’s. Strange but true!
Ribbons • Home • Insert • Design • Animations • Slide Show • Review View
Build a Blank Presentation • Click the Office Button • Choose new presentation • You can choose the slide theme and slide layout in the Design tab on the ribbon.
Create a Presentation with a Template • Click the Office button • Click New • Click Installed Templates • Click a template • Click Create
Group Work • Get together with a group of three people and come up with a list of ten topics (related to school) that you can make a PowerPoint presentation about. • Think about where you have seen PowerPoints before.
PowerPoint Practice 1 • Show Me What You’ve Got! • Create a new presentation using the following features: • Change the slide theme • 6 slides • Cover • Introduction • 3 slides • Conclusion • Use hierarchy to organize each slide • Topic of the Presentation: Powerpoint tips & resources • Save your files as lastname.practice1.pptx • Do not use animations • Upload your file to Google Docs.
Change PPT views • In the view ribbon, you can change the view to: • Normal • Default, normal view • Slide Sorter • View the presentation in slide sorter view to easily rearrange slides (good when you have 20+ slides) • Notes page • View the notes page to edit the speaker notes as they’ll look when you print them out • Slide Show • Plays the slide show in chronological order
View buttons • Click these buttons to change views. • If you click here while you’re on a slide, it will take you to a presentation starting on that slide. • F5 will also start a presentation
Views pt 2 • Slide master • Handout Master • Notes Master • These views will allow you to change the layout of the slide master, handout master, and notes master. For example, in the notes master, you can choose to either add or omit the date
Slide Master • The slide master is the top slide in a hierarchy of slides that stores information about the theme and slide layouts of a presentation, including the background, color, fonts, effects, placeholder sizes, and positioning.
Text • Add text • Change font and size • Change text color • Change text style • Change text alignment • Set up line spacing • Add a text object
Add Animation Effects • In the animations tab on the ribbon, you can add effects. Here are some of the things you can do: • Transition between slides • Transition between slides with a sound • Change the transition speed • Timing between transitions • Each object can have an animation • There is a time and place to add animations
A Note on Animation • When to use crazy animations… • NEVER! • When not to use crazy animations… • ALWAYS
Practice 2 • Make a PowerPoint presentation using the craziest animations possible • Use the PowerPoint you made for Practice 2. • Upload the file to Google Docs and name it as yourlastname.practice2.pptx
PowerPoint Project 1 • Choose your favorite song. • Make a slide show with the lyrics of your song using animation. • The lyrics should come up as the singer sings them….therefore you need to rehearse timing! • You can add pictures, objects, anything! • Send yourself the file of your song. Or bring in the CD to rip it onto the computer. (Just do a search for the song title in your computer and email the file to yourself) • Your song MUST be approved by Mr. Mistler before you begin. Come to see me before you start. • *Bring in headphones to use so you don’t disturb peers. • No swears, sexual connotations, or inappropriate comments. • PG13 song
Grading on Project • Participation (10%) • Animation (30%) • Creativity (30%) • Technical Quality (30%) • File upload/naming • Including the actual song • Using the features of PowerPoint
