  1. Correspondence and Congruence 4-2A What is a correspondence? What are congruent triangles?

  2. Consider page 256 Congruent figures can be slid, flipped and turned until they overlap exactly.

  3. The Right Match Look at the two triangles below the Consider, page 256. Use a protractor and ruler to list all of the angles and segments that are congruent. Identify the vertices of the two triangles that match up with one another. ∆ABC ∆___. What does the order of the letters tell you about the congruent parts of the triangle?

  4. Try It Write a congruence statement for the triangles shown on page 257.

  5. Definitions • A correspondence between two geometric figures is any way of pairing up their vertices. • A congruence correspondence matches the vertices so that all pairs of corresponding parts are congruent.

  6. Corresponds to The corresponds to symbol is The order of the letters in the correspondence statement specifies the corresponding sides and corresponding angles.

  7. Corresponding sides and angles C T Corresponding Angles A B S R Corresponding sides AB RS BC ST AC RT

  8. Definition Two triangles are congruent triangles if and only if all of their corresponding parts are congruent.

  9. What is a correspondence? A way of pairing the vertices and /or sides of a geometric figure. • What are congruent triangles? Two triangles whose vertices match and whose sides match.
