  1. Haben = to have • Haben is a verb. It tells us about someone/something that is “owning” something else.

  3. Who has the board? • Ichhabe die Tafel • Subject (here: ich) and verb (here: habe) form a unit. The verb has to show by its ending –e- that the –ich- is the subject.

  5. In the previous slide you were asking someone else (du) what he or she has. Since you address the person informally, the ending of the verb is st.

  6. The complete conjugation • Ichhabewirhaben • Du hast ihrhabt • Er,sie,eshat Sie/siehaben • These endings go with all verbs in German but the word sein = to be. (and wissen = to know)
