  2. John 10:1-11 (HCSB) 1 " I assure you: Anyone who doesn't enter the sheep pen by the door but climbs in some other way, is a thief and a robber. (A)2 The one who enters by the door is the shepherd (B) of the sheep. (C)3 The doorkeeper opens it for him, and the sheep hear his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.

  3. 4 When he has brought all his own outside, he goes ahead of them. The sheep follow him because they recognize his voice. 5 They will never follow a stranger; instead they will run away from him, because they don't recognize the voice of strangers."

  4. 6 Jesus gave them this illustration, but they did not understand (D) what He was telling them. 7 So Jesus said again, " I assure you: I am (E) the door of the sheep. (F)8 All who came before Me [a] are thieves and robbers, but the sheep didn't listen to them. 9 I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved and will come in and go out and find pasture.

  5. 10 A thief comes only to steal (G) and to kill and to destroy. (H) I have come that they may have life and have it in abundance. 11 "I am the good shepherd. (I) The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. (J)

  8. 8I know your [record of] works and what you are doing. See! I have set before you a door wide open which no one is able to shut; I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept My Word and guarded My message and have not renounced or denied My name.    .    .

  11. 15 Should we pay them, or shouldn’t we?”    Jesus saw through their hypocrisy and said, “Why are you trying to trap me? Show me a Roman coin,[a] and I’ll tell you.” 16 When they handed it to him, he asked, “Whose picture and title are stamped on it?”    “Caesar’s,” they replied. 17 “Well, then,” Jesus said, “give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God.”    His reply completely amazed them.    .    .

So he sent for a bowl of water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s blood. The responsibility is yours!”    .    .

The Scriptures say,    ‘People do not live by bread alone,      but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’[b]”    .

  16. 5 Then the devil took him to the holy city, Jerusalem, to the highest point of the Temple, 6 and said, “If you are the Son of God, jump off! For the Scriptures say,    ‘He will order his angels to protect you.   And they will hold you up with their hands      so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.’[c]” 7 Jesus responded, “The Scriptures also say, ‘You must not test the Lord your God.’[d]” 8 Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 “I will give it all to you,” he said, “if you will kneel down and worship me.”    .    .
