  2. General Function Mission Statement The Northwest ISD Transportation Department, operated by Durham School Services, dedicates all their efforts to providing a safe and comfortable environment for students who are eligible and choose to take advantage of school bus service to and from school.

Structure/Support • Durham School Services owns the buses • Maximum age- 12 years • Average Age- 6 years • Spare bus ratio- 25% • Maintains 153 buses • Operates 105 routes • All buses equipped with radios, cameras, and child check devises. • All buses contain 3 cameras, that views the front, back and entrance of bus, including drivers • All buses are air conditioned

  6. Students Served • Northwest ISD offers student transportation services for all students who live outside of the 2 mile limit within the District. • 62% of the students within the District take advantage of daily transportation services • 60% elementary • 65% middle school • 51% high school

Effectiveness • 2012-2013 Parent Survey • “Satisfied with School Transportation Services”- Strongly Agree and Agree- 85% • All schools except 1 which lost less than 50% of the transportation service in 2011 gave the same rating or improved the rating as the 2010-2011 survey. • The 2010-2011 survey rated 91% Strongly Agree and Agree • The 2010-2011 survey was taken when all students were eligible for transportation services

Effectiveness • Traveled over 1,800,000 miles during the 2012-2013 school year • $235.98 per day, per bus, flat rate , for Regular Education-no mileage charge • $238.13 per day, per bus, flat rate for Special Needs Education-no mileage charge • Complimentary services • District tours • High School car assembly • NEF Prize Patrol • Safety Record • “B”Durham Safety Score Rating • Semi-Annual DPS Inspections- 97% score • 2012-2013- Three Accidents Resulting From Driver Fault

Effectiveness • 2013-14 Budget Reduction Efforts • Two Mile Eligibility Requirement • Hazardous Routes • Triple Staggered Starting Times • Elementary School- 7:45-2:45 • High School- 8:35-3:45 • Middle School- 9:20-4:30 • Fuel Cost Increase • 305,000 gallons of Diesel in 2012-13 • 2012-13 Diesel Cost- $3.14
