  1. Presentation By Toby ( 22 ) And Pinky ( 29 )

  2. Environmental Protect • Pollution control measure • Recycling • Environmental education and legislation • Conservation of organism and their hobbies

  3. Pollution control measure • Checking compliance with Construction Noise Permit conditions. • A complaint on dark smoke emissions from a chimney. • Pollution complaints are entered into a computer network for swift action.

  4. Recycling • What it is ? • Why we need do that ? • What can we do about waste ? • What can we do about aluminum ? • What can we do about paper ? • What can we do about plastic ? • What can we do about energy ? • What can we do about chemicals ?

  5. What it is Recycling is a process in which the recyclable waste (such as aluminum cans, glass, paper and plastic) is sorted and collected, and reprocessed into new and useful products

  6. Why we need do that Conservation of normal resources • Recycling 1 ton of paper can save 17 big trees. • Reduction of pollution • Recycling can reduce methane and other greenhouse gases production from decomposition of rubbish in landfills.

  7. Energy conservation • Recycling aluminum cans save up to 95% of the energy required for making new cans. • Recycling 20 aluminum cans use the same amount of energy when making a new can. • Extension of Hong Kong's limited landfill life • Recycling can reduce the amount of waste deposited in landfills. • Recycling 95 tones of aluminum cans save space in the landfill equal to a standard-sizes swimming pool.

  8. Create employment • The processes of recycling such as collecting, transporting and manufacturing provide employment.

  9. What can we do about waste Reduce • Avoid buying over packaged products and those made of mom-reusable and non-recyclable materials. • Use cloth towels and handkerchiefs. • Use both sides of every sheet of paper.

  10. Reuse • Reuse envelopes. • Take old plastic bags or cloth ones when shopping. • Reuse glass and plastic bottles. It is difficult to recycle them in Hong Kong. • Donate old clothes, Furniture and toys.Call Friends of the Earth for collection points. • Buy Second-hand Furniture, House-wares, books and electrical appliances.

  11. Replace • Use reusable, recyclable and repairable products instead of non-environmentally friendly products. • Buy recycled products

  12. Recycle • At present, the only wastes collected in Hong Kong for recycling are aluminum cans, some paper and domestic plastics, industrial plastics, waste wood, scrap metal, and clear glass.

  13. What can we do about Aluminum Identify the aluminum can by using a magnet : aluminum does not stick to magnet ! Separate the aluminum can from the rest of rubbish. Bag them up and deliver to can recycling bin or nearby can recycler. Call Friends of the Earth for the collection points. or out them beside rubbish bins, will take them away for recycling.

  14. What can we do about paper Sort the paper waste from the rest of rubbish and deliver them to paper recycling bin or nearby paper recycler. Those paper with plastic coating, tissue paper are non-recyclable. Or join Friends of the Earth paper recycling scheme, which has been running at schools, offices and other organizations since March 1990.

  15. What can we do about plastics Since plastics are essentially be derived from petroleum that has limited reserve, disposal of plastics by way landfill or incineration is a waste of useful resources. Such wastage may reduce by recycling, in one form or another.

  16. What can we do about chemicals Another way to recycling plastic, Waste without the need for costly separation is to use it as a raw material for catalytic cracking. The process is known as pyrolysis. The products of pyrolysis are separated by fractional distillation and can be used to make plastics and other chemicals.

  17. Recycling of energy Incineration of plastics to produce energy is, in a sense, a recycling of energy content sorted in the materials. The energy values contained in plastics are quite high. The energy so obtained can be used for heating or generation of electricity.

  18. Environmental education and legislation To most city-dwellers, “Consumption” is a very usual practice in everyday life; Consumption occurs in every aspect of out life, However, there is an unceasing depletion if the limited resources on earth behind consumption. Even worse is that over-consumption leads to waste of resources a lot of waste. As a result, our ecological environment is damaged and polluted.

  19. the target readers of “Little Saviors if the Earth“ are primary school students. Since children of this age group start to have their own consumption behavior which reflects their values. For this reason, as adults, we should teach them correct concepts values, and tell them to bear environmental protection in mind when consuming and not to over-use resources for the sake of consumption. We should provide the children with more than one choice for their reference. Through the “Little Saviors of the Earth”. We try to convey the message of green appropriately use or not. Or whether there are eco-friendly alternatives.

  20. Conservation of organism and their hobbies • We (H.K Dolphinwatch Ltd. ) hope you can join us on one of our tours to see these beautiful creatures. If not, you're welcome to browse around our site to learn about them and help save them.
