  1. RAILCOOL R 107 ARCTICfunctioning Training course - last update March 2013 - WTIT

  2. RAILCOOL R 107 ARCTIC – Functioning Index • REGULATION • ALARMS • INTERFACE WITH THE CONTROLLER • SOFTWARE UPLOAD

  3. RAILCOOL R 107 ARCTIC – Functioning Regulation COMMANDS • Command of the HVAC system possible from the driving cab using the monitor on the instrument panel. • Possible settings from the user: working mode: • cooling heating ventilation • temperature value: • + 2°C / +1°C / -1°C / - 2°C relative to the evaluated temperature • Alarm signals from the HVAC system transferred onto CAN BUS and displayed on the monitor.

  4. RAILCOOL R 107 ARCTIC – Functioning Regulation COMMANDS • Cooling mode: the unit can only use cooling strategies to regulate the internal temperature. • Heating mode: the unit can only use heating strategies to regulate the internal temperature. • Ventilation mode: the system is forced to function in ventilation only.

  5. RAILCOOL R 107 ARCTIC – Functioning Regulation TRANSDUCERS • Inside the HVAC: • No. 3 temperature probes: • external air temperature • treated air temperature • recirculated air temperature • No. 1 high pressure transducer • No. 1 low pressure transducer

  6. RAILCOOL R 107 ARCTIC – Functioning Regulation THERMOREGULATION The software needs: • the external temperature value, received on CAN BUS • (mean value of the temperature values from 2 different probes), • the internal temperature value, from the recirculated air temperature probe, • the value selected from the user (set-point, set-point + 2°C, set-point +1°C, set-point -1°C, set-point - 2°C).

  7. RAILCOOL R 107 ARCTIC – Functioning Regulation THERMOREGULATION • Evaluation of the set-point temperature, considering also the settings from the user. +2°C +1°C -1°C -2°C

  8. RAILCOOL R 107 ARCTIC – Functioning Regulation THERMOREGULATION • Evaluation of the difference between the reference temperature and the internal one (regulation error). • From a regulation point of view the unit can be in the following states: - Ventilation • - Heating • - Cooling • - Pre-heating • - Pre-cooling • Automatic transition from a state to another according to the regulation error above and to the regulation history.

  9. RAILCOOL R 107 ARCTIC – Functioning Regulation VENTILATION • Always in function, also in presence of alarm signals. • One air treatment fan at 24Vcc. • The ventilation speed changes, depending on the regulation error, between a max and a min speed.

  10. RAILCOOL R 107 ARCTIC – Functioning Regulation VENTILATION • The air damper opening changes depending on the regulation error.

  11. RAILCOOL R 107 ARCTIC – Functioning Regulation COOLING • Air treatment fan speed regulation. • External air damper regulation. • Compressors insertion / uninsertion. • Condenser fans insertion / uninsertion. • Heaters insertion /uninsertion.

  12. RAILCOOL R 107 ARCTIC – Functioning Regulation COOLING • Only one compressor. • Regulation depending both on the regulation error and on the regulation history. • If the regulation error is greater than 3,5°C the compressor remains switched on; if it is lower than 3,5°C the compressor is switched ON and OFF in order to regulate.

  13. RAILCOOL R 107 ARCTIC – Functioning Regulation COOLING ATTENTION! • The compressor cannot be switched on if the external temperature is lower than 10°C. • The compressor cannot be switched on if there are some alarms (i.e. low pressure, high pressure). • The compressor has a minimum ON time (1 min), a minimum OFF time (1 min) and a minimum time between two consecutive ON (10 min).

  14. RAILCOOL R 107 ARCTIC – Functioning Regulation COOLING • Two equal condenser fans. • The condenser fans are switched on when the compressor is on. • The condenser fans are switched off when the compressor is off.

  15. RAILCOOL R 107 ARCTIC – Functioning Regulation PRE-COOLING • Different from the cooling phase only for the air damper regulation: internal temperature higher than the external one external air damper completely opened internal temperature lower or equal than the external one external air damper closed and functioning with recirculated air only

  16. RAILCOOL R 107 ARCTIC – Functioning Regulation HEATING • Air treatment fan speed regulation. • External air damper regulation. • Heaters insertion / uninsertion.

  17. RAILCOOL R 107 ARCTIC – Functioning Regulation HEATING • Two electrical heaters. • Half power functioning 4kW power full power functioning 8kW power • Regulation depending both on the regulation error and on the regulation history. • If the regulation error is greater than 1°C both heaters are switched on; if it is lower than 1°C only one heater is used but, in case the regulation strategy with one heater is ineffective, the second one is switched on. • Heaters worked hours balance.

  18. RAILCOOL R 107 ARCTIC – Functioning Regulation HEATING • ATTENTION! • A heater cannot be switched on if there are some alarms (i.e. thermostats).

  19. RAILCOOL R 107 ARCTIC – Functioning Regulation PRE-HEATING • Different from the heating phase only for the air damper regulation: external air damper completely closed and functioning with recirculated air only

  20. RAILCOOL R 107 ARCTIC – Functioning Regulation OTHER FUNCTIONING MODES EMERGENCY VENTILATION • In case of loss of the main MV power supply, the 24Vdc air treatment fan is switched on at maximum speed. • REDUCED FUNCTIONING • In case the electronic controller is faulty, a relay is put in alarm position and the air treatment fan is switched on at maximum speed (only if the temperature is above -20°C).

  21. RAILCOOL R 107 ARCTIC – Functioning Regulation OTHER FUNCTIONING MODES ARCTIC FUNCTION • The electrical panel heater is controlled with a thermostat, it is inserted if the temperature is below -15°C. • The air treatment fan is equipped with a temperature probe on the motor. • In case, at the sw start-up, the temperature of a fan is below -25°C, the fan heater is switched on and the fans remain blocked till both the temperature probes read a temperature greater than -25°C. • The fan heater is switched off when the corresponding fan temperature is greater than -10°C. • In case the fan heater is switched on the corresponding fan functions at reduced speed.
