The Modchip called the “PS Jailbreak” can enable homebrew, backing up of games on the hard drive, and the running of emulators. Sony has filed a lawsuit against OzModChips.com due to them creating a modchip (thumbdrive) that jailbreaks the Playstation 3 gaming system. • Unauthorized game back ups • Device is used to break TPM (Trusted Platform Module) • Backing up games is Illegal in Austrialia due to S.110AA What is happening during this lawsuit? Sony vs. OzModchips What are Oz’s Arguments? Sony had a temporary injunction on the all modchips. Meaning they can stop all modchip retailers from selling modchips until a certain date. Afterwards sony must return all the modchips if they lawsuit fails. • S116AN an exception which gives users the ability to install independent programs without authorization • Will argue that interoperability is necessary since Sony removed the Linux Capabilities on the PS3.
