2. Engine and Transmission The Baleno comes with two engine variants and is the most expensive Maruti hatchback available in the Indian car market. The Maruti Baleno engines are same like those of the Swift. The 1.2-litre petrol engine churns 84bhp of power at 6000rpm, with the maximum torque of 115Nm. While the DDiS 1.3-litre four-cylinder diesel engine churns 75bhp at 4000rpm with maximum torque of 190Nm at 2000rpm. The diesel comes with a five-speed manual while the petrol even has an option of Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). Going by Maruti Swift specifications, Swift engine is also available in two variants. The 1.2-litre petrol engine churns about 83bhp of power and 115Nm of maximum torque. This comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The 1.3-litre diesel engine produces 75bhp of power and 190Nm maximum torque. This engine is connected to a five-speed manual transmission. Mileage The petrol engine on the Baleno should return about 14km/l in city and 16km/l on the highway, while the diesel should have an efficiency of 17km/l in city and highway will have 22km/l at least. The 1248 cc Diesel - powered variant delivers a fuel economy of 23 kmpl in city and 25 kmpl on highways, while the Petrol variant offers a mileage of 18 kmpl on urban roads and 20 kmpl and freeways, respectively.
