General Information • My symbol is- Hg • My Atomic Weight is- 200.59 • My Group In Periodic is- 12 • My Period in periodic table- 6 • My Classification is- Metallic
Discovered by and when • I mercury was known to ancient Chinese and Hindus before 2000 BC and was found in tubes in Egyptian tombs dated from 1500 BC It was used to forma amalgams of other metals around 500 BC. The Greeks used me in ointments and the Romans used it, unfortunately for those using it, in cosmetics

What is so special about me • The main reason is because I am a liquid at room temperature, unlike the vast majority of other metals. I have a high density, so that makes it excellent for use in thermometers and barometers (Pressure measurement). Often moderate pressures, and more especially vacuum, is still quoted in terms of inches or mm of me (1 atmosphere pressure is approximately 30" or 760 mm Hg). I am also historically widely used in the manufacture of sodium hydroxide and chlorine from salt.
My Bff’s/who I get along with/ and who I hate • I can bond with pretty much anything. Normally I bond with other metals REALLY well. I dontreally mix with water or gasses because it is a metal and it normally sticks to covalent bonds (metal/metal or vise versa). It doesn't really stick to any certain element, but the most reactive bonding is between Hg and other metals such as Au (gold). I mix with Copper really well.
Important ThingsI'vedone • Im used in thermometers, barometers, sphygmomanometers, manometers and many scientific instruments
Some random fact about me • People call me “Quick Silver” • It is a highly toxic metal, when inhaled or ingested into the body
