General Policies • Did you park in the correct lot? • Corner of North Clinton Street and Genant Drive • Please silence or turn off all cell phones and pagers when you arrive at CNY Works. • Please no texting while at CNY Works. • Customers are required to check in at the front desk each time they visit CNY Works. • Customers require staff escorts to and from services.

  3. Evacuation & Security • In the event of an emergency, use the nearest emergency exit.Emergency exits are at either end of the center hallway and through the main lobby. • Weapons are prohibited. • If you are in possession of something that could be considered a weapon, you will be asked to leave the premises and secure it.

Resource CenterLocate career information necessary to make informed choices about your future • No appointments necessary – walk in anytime • Computers, printers, copier, fax, phones • Complimentary internet access (Job Search Only) • Resume software • Staff support • Job listings • Civil Service Exam Listings and Typing Tests • Adaptive computer equipment and software to assist individuals with disabilities • Community resources and reference material • Free postage for up to 5 resumes per day Please refrain from using cell phones. If you need to take or make a call or send text messages, please do so in the area outside the lobby at the bottom of the stairs.

  8. On-Site Computer Classes • Beginner & intermediate coursework • Instructor-led, hands-on learning • Small classes • Individual attention • Morning or afternoon sessions • Certificate awarded upon completion

  9. On-Site Computer Classes PC Literacy Intro to Excel Excel 1 Excel 2 Access Keyboarding Word 1 Word 2 PowerPoint Word 1 and/or Excel 1 can be skipped by getting 80% or better on the OPAC Tests in the Resource Room

  10. How to Enroll forClasses and Workshops • Ask your Career Consultant or • E-mail your requests to: SignUp@cnyworks.com • Include the following: • Your name and phone number • Last 4 digits of your SSN • Names of workshops/classes you wish to attend

  11. Veterans Service Representative Provides specialized services to the Veteran community throughout Onondaga County. These services include referrals to local support services that help meet your employment goals such as:. • Referral to federal, state and local Veterans Service Agencies/Organizations. • Protecting and preserving your DD-214. • Referral to NY State Division of Veterans Affairs for State Benefits

  12. Disability Resource Coordinator Facilitates seamless and comprehensive services to persons with disabilities. These services include referrals to local support services that help meet your employment goals such as: • Social Security Work Incentives • Benefits Advisement • Medicaid Buy-In Program • To request accommodation suggestions Please see your Career Consultant if you have any questions.

On the Job Training (OJT)Can give you the competitive edge! • Could provide an advantage if youfind a job you’d like to do, but aren’t fully qualified • If employer is willing to train you, they can be reimbursed for training costs • You still get a full paycheck because CNY Works picks up the other half • OJT is not “automatic” – you must apply with CNY Works first and have your plan approved • Interested?   14. 599 Program Please see your Career Consultant for more information Are you receiving unemployment insurance benefits, enrolled in training or planning to enroll, and interested in 599? The following minimum qualifications apply: • Training must be full time • Must complete entire training in 24 months or less • Must have 12 class hours of training per week or 12 credit hours per semester If APPROVED for training you may be excused from a job search while in training. 599 program DOES NOT PROVIDE Tuition Assistance.

  15. Trade Act • Are you unemployed due to foreign competition? • Has your company applied for or been approved for the TAA program? You may be eligible for special benefits under the Trade Act. Your Career Consultant can determine if you may be eligible for TAA benefits.

The InternetAn important tool in your job search! • More employers are using the web to post job openings and to accept applications & resumes • If you don’t have an e-mail address, many websites offer free accounts (Resource Center staff can help you) • Your packet includes several helpful job search websites.

  18. SMARTSkills Matching and Referral Technology • Automated job matching system • We will submit your resume to SMART. It will analyze how your “transferable skills” can be applied to different types of careers. • Previous jobs • Volunteer experience • Hobbies • Job matches are sent directly to your email starting within 24 hours of submission. • All CNY Works customers will be enrolled in SMART.

What AreTransferable Skills? • Skills and abilities acquired in one field that you can apply to new employment in a different career field. • Transferable skills can be useful for: • Cover letter: Grab the reader’s attention • Résumé: Provide greater detail about your skills • Interview: Explain how your skills can benefit the employer
