A Collaborative Curriculum • Laboratory role is an important integral part of the treatment protocols in this technology • Non compliance of Laboratory role shall be a handicap to the clinician • Laboratory People are handicapped unless they are taught important clinical parameters • Unless personnel is equipped with both Laboratory and Clinical knowledge implementation of protocols shall be incomplete • Comprehensive Theory & Practical’s can make Clinicians/ Biologists more proficient in managing the problem

Current Statistical Scenario • It is estimated that around 18 – 20 % of any population is infertile/ Sub fertile throughout the World. • Male Infertility is on the rise over the past 5 decades, with a gradual decline in the Sperm Count. • 40% of the infertility problems are male oriented and the remaining 60% accounts to female partner and several other disorders. • More than 4 million babies are born globally through Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) • The success rate of ART is around 30 - 35% globally. However, comparatively it is quite low in India because of untrained/ unqualified personnel involved in ART.

Current Statistical Scenario • According to National data of Assisted Reproduction in India (NARI), 2001-2005, published by ISAR (The Indian Society of Assisted Reproduction), a large number of IVF pregnancies (more than 40%) end up in miscarriages as compared to 5% in Western countries. • At present, more than 500 IVF Centres (most of them private except AIIMS) are functioning in India and there are only around 100 qualified and well experienced Embryologists in our Country. • To bridge the gap it is very much essential to provide the country a trained human resource through this innovative course

  8. Duration of the course And Eligibility • One Year PG Diploma Course • Candidates who have completed MBBS, BVSC, M.Sc. (Zoology, Biotechnology, Life sciences, Biological Sciences, Molecular biology, Applied genetics) are eligible • Eligibility Criteria – Minimum 50% in Aggregate the qualifying exam Course Matrix, FEE, Intake & Scheme of Examination • The course consists of two theory papers, two practical's and Case study/ Hands-on Training. • Course Fee as per University guidelines • Intake will be limited to 20 + sponsored candidates

Major Equipments - (2) Laser System for Assisted Hatching & Embryo Biopsy (~ 14 lakhs) Real Time – PCR (~ 18 lakhs) Justification for Equipments : The above mentioned equipments are very essential for Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis for Chromosomal anomalies and Single gene disorders

Initial Response and Possible outcomes • Response to this course has been encouraging with the University/ Academic bodies, IVF centers/ Gynecologists‘ all welcoming the idea to initiate such an innovative course in Traditional Universities which addresses Global and National priorities. • The proposed course bridges the crucial gap between Clinicians and Biologists and will be instrumental in providing the trained manpower to combat the raising infertility problem in India. • The most encouraging gesture has been from UGC and we are grateful for inviting us to give a brief presentation about our Course in the interface meeting with the Expert Committee.
