  2. Instructions • Choose an article that you will lead a discussion on for the class—the article should have concern the theme of technology. When you are choosing the article, make sure that it has some merit (not just a yahoo or huffington post article that you grab as soon as you find it). In other words, use your research skills to find good material for us to read. • Example: Example: Baratunde Thurston “#Unplug: Baratunde Thurston Left the Internet for 25 Days, and You Should, Too” from Fast Company

  3. Instructions (2) • Prepare for the discussion: • What is the article about? (Summary) • Topic • Overall Argument/Thesis • Main Supporting Points/Reasons & Examples • Example: Baratunde Thurston—what is his topic? What is his argument? What supporting points does he give? • Take 10 minutes to look back and see if you can answer those questions (class notes!)

Instructions (3) • Direct us to specific passages and ideas presented in the article • Craft/Create questions for the class to answer and discuss • You can also lead us through a quick activity as an option in addition to questions if you think it will help develop the conversation around the article. • BIG POINT: YOU WANT TO GET THE CLASS TO RESPOND CLOSELY TO THE TEXT, TALK ABOUT THE TEXT, AND THEN(AFTER) TALK ABOUT WHAT THEY THINK. • Example: Thurston—what passages seem significant or useful to discuss? Why?

Instructions (4) • In this part, you will lead us out of the conversation and wrap up the text. • Restate what the writer wants us to think • Restate what seems important or relevant for us to take away from the text • Restate what your group thinks about the text and the ideas (you don’t all have to agree either!) • Example—What do you think we should take away from Thurston’s article?

  6. Extras • Powerpoint • Videos • Handouts • Images • Etc. • All in the service of presenting the article’s ideas and getting the class to have a conversation

  7. Reflection • Summarize the article that you choose (Main idea, supporting points). • Describe how you and the group selected an article. What motivated the choice? Why this article? What did you find most compelling? (This should be pretty clear as you are justifying why you chose this particular article). • What role you played in selecting and presenting the article? How did you prepare? • Post as a blog post on your home page (of your blog). Post the link or the pdf to your article choice.
