  1. AmericanRevolution By Ryan lough

  2. Introduction • My passion project is about the American Revolution. I choose this because I thought it would be interesting to learn about what caused this revolution, who was fighting in this war and what they where fighting for and why was this revolution was so important to America.

  3. What caused this war • The cause of this war was a political upheaval when most of the people in the thirteen colonies didn’t want to be under British control. They called them selves revolutionaries. The revolutionaries started to expel British royal officers and the British responded to this by sending combat troops and then the war began.

  4. Who was fighting this war • The men and women fighting this war was the British against the revolutionaries. On the revolutionaries side there was France, Spain, and the Dutch. The revolutionaries had a excellent commander and his name was George Washington. George went raising a army to neutralize the British influence. He did so by saying George III of Great Britain was tyrannical and therefore illegitimate.

  5. What were they fighting for • They were fighting for America they didn’t want the British there any more. One of the slogans was “no taxation without representation”. They didn’t want to be under British control they wanted to be their own country. So then in July 1776 Thomas Jefferson wrote the United States Declaration of Independence. With this in place the colonies became states. Congress rejected all British proposals of compromise because it would keep them under the king.

  6. Britain takes the lead • The British were in Boston and so the revolutionaries went and forced them out of Boston. The British moved on and captured New York. By doing so they almost caught Washington and his army. The British blockaded the ports and captured other cities.

  7. France helps America • After an army from Canada was captured by the revolutionaries, the French joined in to help America. With France supporting America their naval fleet was equal to the British naval fleet. Also the French had allies in the Netherlands and Spain but Britain had no other major allies. When the war moved down south, the British forces caught an American army at South Carolina. However, there weren't enough British loyalists to sign up and help keep the American army captured. Then an American and French army caught a British army at Yorktown and thus ended the war.

  8. Peace treaty • In 1783 a peace treaty was signed to ensure total separation of America from Britain. The peace treaty also had America keep all of America states except for Florida. Britain had control of Canada and Spain took control of Florida.

  9. Boston Tea Party • The Boston Tea Party was a major protest led by the Sons of Liberty. The Sons of Liberty where the men and women that led the revolution against the British. They dressed up as native Americans and dumped British tea into the Boston harbor. They did this in defiance of the tea tax that the British had implemented but America did not authorize.
