  1. Types of Injuries • Macrotrauma (acute trauma) • Microtrauma (breakdown over time) • Different psychological reaction to the type of injury

Macrotrauma • Rehab proceeds immediately • Usually results in clean progression of healing • AT and PT have clear cut rehab protocol • Athlete most certainly knows the injury could not be prevented and it was caused by a situation usually out of their control. • Athlete will bring closure to cognitive appraisal and assume rehab as their rectifying the situation.

  3. Micotrauma • Usually results from biomechanical overloading • Recovery may be much longer with relapses more frequent • Athlete experiences a great deal of distress (frustration, anxiety, etc), second guessing, and detachment for the sport is gradual. • Athlete will question the AT or PT skills and protocol.
