  2. Apartheid • A system of racially motivated laws implemented in 1948 in South Africa that left Black South African’s in a state of modified slavery. • It was systematically taken apart from 1990 to 1994.

  6. The outcome of Segregation • Limited access to Education. • Limited access to jobs or careers. • Unequal distribution of money.

  7. History of South African People • White Groups • Afrikaner – Dutch/German • English • Black Groups • Bantu • Zulu • Swazi • Xhosa • Many other smaller groups.

  8. Conflict • The Dutch and German settlers controlled the Black African population of South Africa for almost three hundred years before the British took control of South Africa. • Exploitation of South Africa was not limited to it’s people but included it’s resources. Diamonds and Gold.

  9. Conflict Modifications • Slowly the “white” tribes of South Africa began to co-exist although there was always stress between the two. • Afrikaner vs. English and Blacks (Generally) • Black Tribe vs. Black Tribe

  10. The Real Conflict • The real motivation of most of the conflict was economic. If you could control the government and the people of the country, you controlled the money. • US embargo of all Diamonds from South Africa was a huge economic blow to South Africa and forced them into a position that they reinterpreted their stance on Apartheid.
