About the National Guard • The National Guard plays a critical role in defense and natural disaster response • Army National Guard represents 32% of U.S. Army personnel and 40% of U.S. Army operating forces – 2800 armories • Air National Guard represents 19% of U.S. Air Force personnel and operates 17 of 18 air defense alert sites across America • Training for National Guard is the same as for regular Army and Air Force – continuous learning and development through military and civilian programs
About the National Guard • Up to 20% of Army and Air National Guard members are unemployed • Up to 50% of those returning from deployment are unemployed for 6 to 12 months • Many of those unemployed have not held civilian sector jobs because of continuous deployment since enlistment • Guard members are intensively trained in skills highly relevant to civilian employers – they embrace continuous learning and personal development
American Jobs for America’s Heroes (AJAH) • Alliance of the National Guard, the Center for America, Corporate America Supports You (CASY) and the Military Spouse Corporate Career Network (MSCCN) • AJAH encourages employers to post jobs directly into the National Guard Employment Network – • – hundreds of National Guard employment counselors working one-on-one with Guard members to match them to jobs and facilitate hires • 110 business associations support AJAH • 857 employers posting jobs – more every week
Job Posting for Guard Members via AJAH • No cost for employers or Guard candidates • Employers register at www.CenterForAmerica.org • CASY-MSCCN counselors work with employers to help translate job requirements and upload job postings • Postings are then distributed to National Guard employment counselors who actively match Guard candidates and provide matches to employers • Guard counselors work with employers as desired • Guard members receive free counseling and job readiness training • Employers receive support until jobs are filled t
