Narcolepsy • Frequent periods of sleepiness during the day. • Four main symptoms • Gradual or sudden attacks of sleepiness • Occasional cataplexy • Sleep paralysis • Hypnagogic hallucinations • Against the lack of Orexin, stimulant drugs like Ritalin is used for enhancing dopamine and norepinepherine level. • Source: Kalat, J. REM Behavior Disorder (cont’d) • Treatment • Using Clonazepam,Benzodiazapine • If these not solve this disorder,some antidepressants or melatonin can be used. • Shaping sleep environment,such as removing all sharp and breakable objects in order not to cause any damage. Night Terror, Sleep Talking, Sleep Walking • Night Terror is known as a simple image or short act during an unpleasant dream rather than a nightmare. • Sleep Talking is more normal activity than the other sleeping disorders. Most of the people do not aware of this until someone hears and tells about that. • Sleep Walking is basically a situation that brain is awake and other parts are asleep. Source: Kalat, J. W. (2009).
