  2. The elbow is a complex hinge joint, allowing for flexion and extension, as well as rotation of the forearm. Elbow pain is usually related to overuse, in sports related injuries, such as golf, baseball and tennis. Acute injuries such as tears, sprains, and osteoarthritis are less common.
