  2. Find Someone Who... • Mingle and find someone who fits each description. • Record her name on your sheet. • When your sheet is full, have a seat. • Any surprises?

  3. Group Norms • Think of three norms you feel strongly about. • Write down the three norms on three different sticky notes. • Share at your table. • As a table, finalize a list of three norms.

  4. Group Norms • Tables report out to large group. • Discuss and finalize list for the whole group. • These will be our norms to operate by this year.

  5. Preparing for Dr. Tanya Wright • Review Tanya’s article- Purposeful, Playful Pre-K: Building on Children’s Natural Proclivity to Learn Language, Literacy, Mathematics, and Science • Record questions you have for Tanya. We will put these on the Wikispace with answers.

Visiting from MSU Tanya Wright Ph.D., University of Michigan tswright@msu.edu Tanya Wright is a former kindergarten teacher whose interests include: • instruction • teacher education • teacher professional development in the area of early language and literacy. Her research focuses on the teacher’s role in promoting oral language, vocabulary and background knowledge development for young children. Her recent work has addressed the current state of vocabulary instruction in kindergarten classrooms as well as supports for vocabulary instruction in commonly-used core curricular materials.
