Lesson 3.6 Objective: To solve decimal equations To solve real life sales tax problems So Far we have worked with equations that have integer or fraction answers. In real life, decimals are used often, especially when dealing with money. Rounding: Rounding of decimals often occurs when looking for a meaningful/practical answer. Money problems are usually rounded to the nearest hundredth (penny). Means approximately and is used in place of an equal sign when rounding.
Example: Solve, round answer to the nearest hundredth Add 7 to both sides 13x – 7 = 27 + 7 + 7 Divide both sides by 13 13x = 34 13 13 1 2 .6 5 13 34 -26 8 0 -78 2 0 -13 7 0 -65 5 Stop and round X 2.62
