  3. Keys to Success at NMHS • 1. Make solid decisions that will keep everyone safe. • 2. Attend school every day and give it your best effort. • 3. Be responsible for yourself and your actions every day. • 4. If you have a problem, ask a teacher, counselor or administrator for help. • 5. Don’t listen to gossip or hearsay • 6. Be proud of yourself and conduct yourself accordingly. • 7. Live the Big 3 everyday.

  4. Class Rules (Keys to Success) 1. Be respectful when others are speaking.* 2. Do not leave your seat without permission.* 3. Follow directions as they are given. Ask for clarification if necessary.* Marion County code of conduct will be strictly enforced. ** DNDW

  6. Bathroom (emergencies) – sign out sheet on door. MUST HAVE PLANNER Nurse – teacher discretion (NREMT-I, FL EMT) Fire Drill / Code Red – Evacuation route posted. Follow instructions exactly! Warm-up – completed at the beginning of class. Quizzes Posted Make up work – see notebook for missed warm-ups, folder for assignments. Turn in on time! I will dismiss you at the end of class, not the bell. Do not line up at the door! Additional Procedures

  9. Scaggs’ Grading PolicyWeighted Grades • Tests/Quizzes/Projects – 40% • Class work – 30% • Homework / Warm-ups – 20% • Participation – 10% Note: Participation can make or break your A. Extra Credit? Not likely – there is a rare occasion for extra credit – usually to prepare for projects. All long-term assignments/projects will be accompanied by a rubric to breakdown grading guidelines.

  13. Important Dates : 8 – 12/2008 • Since these assignment due dates are being distributed at the beginning of the year, there is NO EXCUSE for assignments to be turned in late. If you are going to be absent for any reason, you must turn in assignments early. If you are sick and absent the day of a test, quiz, or project due date, you must accompany your make-up work with a parent note about your absence.

  14. Sunshine State Standards will be displayed to pinpoint topics of learning Objectives will be posted to tie things together at the end of the lesson. An agenda will be posted daily listing the day’s activities (materials will also be listed) A word wall will be displayed for vocabulary understand What are we learning today?

  16. All objects tell history! A pen with a company written on it can tell about where a person has been and what they have done. A bullet pulled from a wall can tell the story of a struggle, shots fired (or misfired) and the gun from which it was fired. Technical, yes, but also HISTORICAL! Think if that bullet came from WWII. Material Culture Project • You will create a box including objects from your past that will help paint a picture about you, tell the story of your life thus far. • You will present your box to the class during the block at the end of the week. Be able to explain your items! • Objects must : • tell about you! • Be LEGAL! (And school appropriate) • No food, dirty laundry, or valuables that could be stolen (if you want to include them, take a picture)

  18. Material Culture Project • Your box must be turned in during your block at the end of the week. • 1,3,5 due THURSDAY • 2,4,6 due FRIDAY (sorry if you have class Thursday, it’s the luck of the draw.) *** Read through your expectations. NO PROJECTS WILL BE ACCEPTED LATE.
