The first medal minted in 2001 by the EMC countries is a silver one with the theme 'Europe and bull/Zeus'; the millennia old symbol of the European continent based on the classical Greek myth. Since the post-war development towards a political European entity, this Europe symbol is used by the Press as the symbol of the present European Union.
