  2. Information • 34th president Eisenhower was born on October 14, 1890 in Denison, Texas. He lived with both of his parents , Five brothers. • He joined the military in order to gain a free college education, Marie "Mamie" Geneva Doud whom he married in 1916. , they had one son (John Sheldon Doud Eisenhower)

  3. Military Career • After graduation, Eisenhower was assigned to be a second lieutenant in the infantry. During World War I, he was an training instructor and commander of a training center. • He attended the Army War College, After the war he resigned and became the president of Columbia University. He was appointed by Truman to be the Supreme Commnader of NATO .In December 1944 he was made a five-star general.

  4. Becoming President • November 4, 1952. Four years later, he was reelected to a second term by an even wider margin president Eisenhower supported and signed the 1957 and 1960 Civil Rights Acts.

Eisenhower was chosen to run on the Republican ticket with Richard Nixon as his Vice President,more people voted for "Ike" leading to his victory with 55% of the popular vote and 442 electoral votes. • He ran again in 1956 against Stevenson. One of the main issues was Eisenhower's health due to a recent heart attack. In the end he won with 57% of the vote.

  6. Last Days of Eisenhower • January 20, 1961, Dwight D. Eisenhower left office for a much-anticipated retirement.Thirteen years earlier, he had suffered a near-fatal heart attack. • On March 28, 1969, Dwight D. Eisenhower died at Walter Reed Army Hospital. His last words, "I want to go; God take me. • A stroke disabled Mamie in late September of 1979, and she died at Walter Reed Hospital five weeks later. • Doud Dwight, died of scarlet fever in 1921, at the age of three.
