Today’s Aims • Describe the manner in which the police should conduct an arrest (Pass) • Explain The effectiveness of the controls imposed on arrest by PACEand Code A (merit) • Evaluate Whether the powers of arrest adequately balance the right to investigate and protect against the need to protect individual rights (distinction) How will I be assessed? Your assignment is to produce a leaflet which explains the powers of the police to arrest and detain a suspect and outlines the rights of a detained person

  4. Arrest Yesterday, I saw Jimmy walking through town. He had a plastic bag with him, and seemed to be drinking something and even throwing the cans onto the road. One car had to swerve to avoid him and nearly hit another car. Could I have arrested him without a warrant? Can you advise PC BOB?
