How to be an Effective Online Instructor PREPARE VOICE & SETTING ENGAGE & MONITOR
PREPARE • As if you were instructing in a classroom setting • Be the expert - know the content • Practice your delivery • Review your timing for sections including polls • Have materials/notes ready • Have water nearby • Log in 20 minutes prior to session start time AVOID: Reading straight from notes.
VOICE & SETTING • Smile! To project positive energy • Ensure you are in a quiet place with no interruptions • Speak clearly and be dynamic • Use examples & stories to illustrate points Avoid: Speaking in monotone
ENGAGE & MONITOR • Interact with your audience! • Allow time for attendees to digest/process the questions • React & give feedback • Monitor questions and hand-raising
