  2. Excerpt from an e-mail written by a student in Frankfurt / Main “You see, my problem is as follows: After seven successful semesters at medical school I have nevertheless decided to change my course of studies but am still very unhappy about having no documents to show despite passing my pre-clinical examination after 4 semesters and consistently achieving marks of 1 or 2.”

  3. Point of departure “We don’t want a Bachelor doctor” and the “quality of education is at risk”.

  4. Bologna Process: Goals • Increase in number of graduates • Bachelor degree as standard professional qualification after 6 semesters • Master degree as optional postgraduate qualification • Doctorate as 3rd degree level • Decrease in number of drop-outs • Europe-wide comparability of qualifications • Increased mobility • Higher education reform

  7. What good is a Bachelor degree in medicine?

  8. Is the Master degree in medicine meant to be a consecutive qualification or continuing education?

  9. Model curriculum with and / or without Bologna as a remedy

  10. Examination stress due to Bologna

  11. Is there a danger of damage due to abuse of title?

  12. Can students holding a Bachelor degree in another subject, e.g. in biology, go on to study medicine in a post-graduate Master degree course?

  13. What other aspects argue for the Bologna Process in medicine?

  14. … but the previous experience withthe Bologna Process has been really bad …

  15. Bologna Process … and it does work after all! The resistance of medical professionals to the Bachelor degree is beginning to crumble – very slowly.
