CLASS TIME: (at most) 23 hour/week HOURS IN WEEK: 24 x 7 = 168 hours total TIME FOR WORK: 168 - 23 = 145 hours/week Whether you receive grade of A+ or F? 168 HOURS IN WEEK - 23 -- in class - 2 x 23 -- study: 2 hours (min) per class hour - 7 x 7 -- sleeping - 21 x 1 -- meals - 7 x 2 -- shower, dress, transportation - 7 x 2 -- email, phone, twitter/LinkedIn, etc TIME FOR WORK = 1 hour YOU !!!

Repetition, discussion, practice Create a study group Make sure everyone in the group can do everything Never put your name on something that you did not do Attend instructor office hours / Go to Help Desks Introduce yourself and talk about the course If you don't have a question, just come and listen Do homework that is assigned Make sure you can do anything (not just the questions that were on the assignment.)
  14. Studying & Time Management Plan your week Schedule time for every course Don't delay things that are difficult Plan for the unexpected After everything is done: Schedule in a little (not a lot of) fun time

  18. Admissions Packages Read all contents thoroughly. Package includes: Letter of offer - instructions on how to accept offer Registration instructions and required courses Notice of the Orientation session University English Requirement (UER)
  19. To accept offer… Fill out and sign enclosed response card Include registration deposit ($200) not required for returning UVIC students Mail back to the Engineering Undergraduate Office (envelope included)
  20. To register your courses… Using registration info included, prepare conflict-free timetable Register all courses, labs and tutorials – consider a reduced course load! Review your timetable, maintain records, view account, unofficial transcript, etc. All done through MyPage

To apply for a NetLink ID… You are authorized to register, therefore you are eligible to establish your NetLink ID (see package insert) Go to http://netlink.uvic.ca/ Application Form - to establish NetLink ID Status - to check the status of previous NetLink ID account Required for use of computing facilities, UVIC and Engineering email, dail-in and internet access and MyCo-op
  22. To apply for an Engineering Computer Account… After you have established your NetLink ID Go to http://www.uvic.ca/engineering/current/undergrad/computing/ Access Cards (will have to do this on campus) Required for access to Engineering buildings and computing facilities

English Requirement Every UVic student must satisfy Undergraduate English Requirement Requirement for continued registration MOST of you have already satisfied this requirements already (see back of admit letter from Undergraduate Admissions) Some of you still have to satisfy this requirement (see the enclosed handout) Further review or inquiries need to be directed to Arnie Clark, Admissions Services, arclark@uvic.ca
  24. Conditions of Admission Specific conditions are outlined in Engineering Bridge Handbook Final grades of 55% or better AND A minimum overall GPA of 2.0 (greater than 55%) for the Bridge Program. No more than one failing grade in all courses and modules UVic will not accept ‘D’ grades for credit. Courses with a final grade of ‘D’ (less than 55%) must be repeated.

  33. Transfer and Challenge WTs Apply for any WT challenges and transfers in the first 4 months of your program at UVic (by April 30, 2012!) Complete documentation must be submitted within 4 months after making the application (by August 31, 2012) Challenges are based on relevant work done prior to entering the ENGR program at UVic – fee: $306 Transfers are based on WT credits from a college or university with a recognized co-op program – no fee
  34. ENGR 020 Introduction to Professional Practice Taught in the first six weeks of the Spring term Introduces you to professional practice, ethics, safety, APEGBC, program requirements, plus cover letters, resumes, interview skills, job searches, networking etc.
