  2. Theory • The Wacky Cell Theory • So, the Cell Theory states: • All organisms are made of cells • All existing cells are produced by other living cells • The cell is the most basic unit of life

Contributors Schleiden • Hook Schwann Leewenhoek Hooke- the 1st to identify and name cells Leewenhoek- made better lenses so was able to see cells in greater detail Schleiden-found that plants are made of cells Schwann- concluded that all living things are made of cells Virchow- proposed that all cells come from other cells Virchow

  5. Cells • Prokaryotic cells do NOT have a nucleus or other membrane-bound organelles. The DNA is suspended in the cytoplasm. All prokaryotes are microscopic single cell organisms.

  7. Cells • Eukaryotic Cells have a nucleus and other membrane-bound organelles. The nucleus is the largest organelle and encloses the genetic information. Eukaryotes may be multicellular or single celled organisms.
