2. Focus Question Does my learning experience follow the congruency table?

3. Time Frame Implementation • The implementation of this lesson took two days during writing time. • These sessions are for 30 minutes. Students who needed an extended period of time were given that opportunity. • The students were allowed to work on their essay during morning work till they completed it.

4. Objectives • 1.0-The students will be able to write notes while the teacher is reading a passage on Jane Goodall • 2.0- The students will be able to write about the main idea of the passage

5. Essential Questions • Why was Jane Goodall an important person? • Why did her discoveries help other scientists?

6. Enduring Understanding • There are many different people from the past and present that have made important discoveries. • When writing, it is important to state the main idea and use many details and facts to make the writing more interesting.

7. Guiding Questions • What was the main idea in this passage? • What kind of person was Jane Goodall? • What do you think about her discoveries? • How can I support my ideas while I am writing?

New York State Standard • NYS Learning Standard: ELA • Key Idea: Writing • Standard: Standard 1-Students will read, write, listen, and speak for information and understanding • Performance Indicator: • Take notes to record facts by following teacher directions, with assistance • State a main idea and support it with facts, with assistance

9. The Student’s Tasks Task # 1- As the teacher is reading a passage the student will take notes and use an organizer Task # 2- After the reading, the students will share their ideas verbally with the rest of the class

10. Tasks Continued… Task # 3-The students will use their organizer to create a writing piece on Jane Goodall. It will state the main idea of the passage Task # 4- The student will use their checklist to assess their own writing

12. Modifications Needed • A few of the student’s in Mr. Dunstan’s class can use extra support in comprehending material that they read, or that is read to them. • The fill in the blank sheet provides a more concise and clear presentation of the information

31. Reflection There were a few areas I could of improved in my lesson, or ideas I could have added. These included: • The use of more technology • Using a second passage to read to the students • Allowing the students to research Jane Goodall further before writing
